Rockstar Games has announced that for the 10 year anniversary of GTA:
Vice City, their most popular Grand Theft Auto game yet, for Android and
iOS. Rockstar had done something similar for Grand Theft Auto III,
releasing the game for the popular mobile platforms to celebrate the
game’s 10 year anniversary.
Vice City takes place before the events of GTA: III,
sometime in the 80’s. The city layout is based on Miami and is heavily
influenced by the cult classic, Scarface. Vice City was the first game
where the protagonist, Tommy Vercetti, could use bikes as vehicles along
with the ability to change costumes in order to dodge the cops.
Rockstar
has stated that the game will be visually rich, featuring “native high
resolution graphics and several enhancements.” Unfortunately, those are
the only details available so far, if they may be considered details at
all. What enhancements will make their way into the final version of the
game are unknown, as is the release date. All we have for now is a
“coming this Fall” banner.
Lately there has been a spurt of
converting popular classics to iOS and Android counterparts, the newest
additions being Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Dreamcast’s Crazy Taxi
(though it was an arcade game before Dreamcast took it over). Rockstar’s
own GTA III was a big success when it made its way to iOS and Android
devices and we’d expext the same from GTA: Vice City
